ACA Marketplace Plans in St. Petersburg

We help you pick a Marketplace plan by what it costs over the whole year, not just the monthly premium. We check your tax credit, compare carriers side by side and walk you through enrollment. The consultation is free.

What a Marketplace Plan Is and Who It Fits

Florida doesn't run its own exchange, so Marketplace plans here are bought through the federal one. Every plan has to cover the same core benefits, such as doctor visits, hospital stays, maternity care and preventive checkups. The differences are in the premium, the deductible, the network and what you pay each time you use care.

These plans fit people who don't get coverage through work. That includes the self-employed, people between jobs, early retirees and families where one spouse's employer plan costs too much. If your income falls in the right range, a premium tax credit can lower your monthly bill.

Most people shop by premium alone. That's where choices go wrong. A cheap bronze plan can cost more by December than a silver plan if you see a doctor often. Because we're an independent insurance agency, no single carrier owns us. We put several carriers' plans in front of you and total up what each one would really cost you across twelve months.

What We Do on a Marketplace Plan

Tax credit check
We estimate your premium tax credit from your expected income and family size. Getting that number close matters, because the credit is settled on your tax return.
Full-year cost math
We add the yearly premium to the deductible and the out-of-pocket maximum. Then we look at how you actually use care, so you see a realistic total and a worst-case total for each plan.
Network and doctor check
We check whether your doctors and the hospitals you would use take each plan. A lot of Marketplace plans are HMOs or EPOs, and those pay nothing outside the network.
Silver plan extra savings
If your income qualifies, silver plans come with cost-sharing reductions that lower the deductible and copays. We point out when that makes silver a better buy than bronze.
Enrollment help
We stay on the line while your application goes through and your plan is picked. You know what you signed up for and when the first premium is due.
Next year's renewal
Plans and prices change every fall. We go over your renewal with you so you don't roll into a plan that no longer fits.

Signs It's Time to Look at a Marketplace Plan

  • You lost job coverage

When work coverage ends, you get a special enrollment period, most often 60 days from that date. Let it pass and you may be stuck without a plan until open enrollment comes around.

  • You started working for yourself

Freelancers and small business owners often pay full price without knowing a tax credit applies. A short call can show what you qualify for.

  • Your premium jumped at renewal

Carriers reprice every year. The plan that was a good buy last year may not be this year.

  • Your deductible never gets met

If you keep paying cash for visits because you never reach the deductible, a different metal tier could cost less over the year.

  • Your income changed

A raise or a drop in pay changes your tax credit. Updating it now beats a surprise when you file taxes.

What Moves the Price of a Marketplace Plan

Our consultation has no fee. Having us check costs you nothing, since the carrier you end up picking is the one that pays us. The amount you owe that carrier comes down to a few things we cover on the call.

Income and tax credit

Your expected income and family size set the size of your credit. The credit can cut the premium a lot or not at all.

Metal tier

Bronze has the lowest premium and the highest deductible. Gold flips that. Silver sits between and is the only tier with cost-sharing reductions.

Age and tobacco use

Older enrollees pay higher base premiums. Tobacco users can be charged more too.

Network type

Narrow HMO networks usually cost less each month. Broader networks cost more but give you more doctors to choose from.

How a Marketplace Consultation Goes

  1. 1

    You call us

Tell us who needs coverage, your rough yearly income and any doctors you want to keep. Pick whatever is easiest for you: a phone call, a video meeting or sitting down with us in person.

  2. 2

    We run the numbers

We pull plans from multiple carriers available in Pinellas County and figure your tax credit. You see premium, deductible, out-of-pocket max and network for each one.

  3. 3

    We compare side by side

We show what each plan would run you if you barely used it, and what it would run you in a rough year with lots of care. You pick, and we explain the tradeoffs in plain words.

  4. 4

    We help you enroll

We walk through the application with you and confirm the plan, start date and first payment. If something comes up later, you call the same people.

Questions About Marketplace Plans

When during the year can I sign up?

Open enrollment begins each fall and ends in January. Outside that window, you first need a qualifying life event, like losing coverage, moving, getting married or having a baby. Those special periods usually give you 60 days after the event to choose a plan.

Will I pay more if I use an agent?

No. The price of a plan is the same however you enroll. The carrier you choose pays us, so our help costs you nothing.

What if my income turns out higher or lower than I guessed?

Your tax credit is settled when you file your return. Earn more than your estimate and you may have to repay part of it. Earn less and you may get more back. Reporting income changes during the year keeps the difference small.

Is it a mistake to pick the cheapest plan?

Not necessarily. Bronze can make sense if you're healthy and seldom need a doctor. If you get regular care, we'll show how silver or gold may cost less once the whole year is added up.

Can my family share one Marketplace plan?

Usually, yes. Our Family Health Insurance page has the details, and we can quote it both ways during the same call.
