Dental Insurance in St. Petersburg

We help you pick a dental plan by what it pays over the next few years, not just the monthly premium. You get side-by-side options from several carriers and a plain answer about waiting periods, annual maximums and what your teeth are likely to need.

What you actually get from a dental plan

Dental coverage doesn't work like a health plan. Most plans pay a large share for exams and cleanings, a smaller share for fillings, and smaller still for crowns, root canals or dentures. Nearly all of them also set a yearly limit on what they pay, and that limit tends to matter more than people think.

That means a low premium can turn out badly if you need major work and the plan holds off paying for a year. A pricier plan with no wait on basic work can pull ahead by your second appointment. We put both in front of you and run the numbers together.

As an independent insurance agency, we can show you plans from many carriers without a single company to favor. Meet with us at our office, or go over it by phone or video, which plenty of clients in Gulfport, Pinellas Park and St. Petersburg find easier.

What we cover in a dental plan review

  1. 01

    Your dentist, checked against networks

Give us the name of the office you use now. We look up which plans count that dentist as in network, and we note whether each plan is a PPO, an HMO-style plan or a discount plan. Staying in network usually keeps your share lower.

  2. 02

    Waiting periods spelled out

Many plans make you wait months before they pay on fillings, and longer on crowns or bridges. We show you exactly where each plan sets those clocks.

  3. 03

Annual maximum next to likely costs

We compare each plan's yearly cap with the work your dentist has already mentioned. If one crown would use up most of the cap, you should know that before you enroll.

  4. 04

Premiums added up over the years

We total the premiums across the time you expect to keep the plan. Then we set that against what each plan pays, so you see the real value instead of just the monthly bill.

  5. 05

    Dental alongside your other coverage

If you also need individual health insurance or vision insurance, we can look at them together. Sometimes pairing them helps and sometimes it doesn't. We'll tell you which.

  6. 06

    Help with enrollment

Once you choose, we help with the application and confirm your start date. You leave knowing when each benefit kicks in.

When dental coverage is worth a closer look

  • Bigger work is on the horizon

Maybe your dentist flagged a cracked tooth, a worn filling or a possible root canal. Once you know a bill is coming, waiting periods and the yearly cap decide which plan is worth buying.

  • You lost coverage with a job

Leaving an employer usually ends the dental plan too. A gap can mean starting waiting periods over, so it pays to look soon.

  • You keep putting off cleanings

Skipped cleanings tend to turn into bigger bills later. Most plans pay a high share of preventive visits, which can cover a good part of what you pay in premium.

  • You hit your cap every year

If you max out early each year, your plan may be too small. One with a higher cap could cost more each month and less overall.

  • Your kids are nearing braces age

Orthodontic benefits are limited and often come with their own lifetime cap and age rules. Looking early gives you more choices for family coverage.

How a consultation runs

  1. 1

    You tell us the basics

We ask who needs coverage, which dentist you use and any work you already know about. That takes a few minutes.

  2. 2

We pull plans from several carriers

We look for plans that fit your dentist and your budget. You see them side by side, with premiums, waiting periods, coinsurance and annual maximums lined up.

  3. 3

We walk through the long view

We show what each plan would likely pay over the next couple of years based on what you told us. Choose one on the spot or sleep on it. That call is yours.

  4. 4

We handle the application with you

When you're ready, we go through the application together on the phone or at our office and confirm the date your coverage begins. If questions come up after your first cleaning, just give us a ring.

What moves the price of a dental plan

Our side costs you nothing. You pay us no fee to talk or to compare plans, since the carrier you end up with is the one that pays us. What you do pay is the plan's premium, and a few things set that number.

Who is on the plan
A plan for one adult carries the lowest premium. Each person you put on it raises the number, and bringing kids onto the plan can open up or narrow your orthodontic options.
Waiting periods
Plans with no waiting period on basic or major work usually cost more each month. If you need work soon, that extra can pay for itself.
Annual maximum
A higher yearly cap raises the premium. It's worth it only if you're likely to use it.
Network type
PPO plans with wide networks and out-of-network benefits tend to cost more than plans that keep you to a set list of dentists.
Deductible and coinsurance
A lower deductible and a bigger share paid on fillings and crowns push the premium up. We show where that trade-off lands for you.

Dental insurance questions we hear

Can I get dental insurance outside open enrollment?

Usually, yes. Most carriers sell standalone dental plans year-round, so you rarely have to wait for a window. The exception is dental bundled into an ACA Marketplace plan, which is tied to open enrollment or a special enrollment period. We'll sort out which one applies to you on the call.

Will a new plan pay for work I need right away?

Some will, many won't. Plans often have waiting periods for basic and major work, and some exclude a tooth that was already missing before coverage started. We point out which plans pay soonest so you aren't caught off guard.

How is a discount plan different from dental insurance?

A discount plan doesn't pay any claims. You pay a membership fee and get lower prices from dentists who belong to it, with no yearly cap to run into. For some people that works out cheaper, and if it fits you better we'll tell you.

Do I have to change dentists?

Not necessarily. We start with your current dentist and look for plans that include that office. If none do, we show you what staying out of network would cost you.

What does it cost to talk with you?

Nothing. We're paid by the carrier you pick, so you don't pay us a fee for the consultation or the comparison.
